Narendra Modi
Narendra Modi is one of the most influential politicians in India today. Born in 1950 in the state of Gujarat, Modi has had a long and varied career in politics. He started out as a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a right-wing Hindu nationalist organization, before joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1987. Modi quickly rose through the ranks of the BJP, serving as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014. During his tenure, he implemented a number of policies that were controversial but also highly effective. He focused on economic development, infrastructure, and education, and he was credited with turning Gujarat into one of the most prosperous states in India.
